Verstappen wins second F1 world title with win in Japan
1 min read
Max Verstappen has retained his Formula One world drivers’ championship after victory at a rain-delayed and shortened Japanese Grand Prix.
The Dutch driver dominated in the difficult conditions, winning by a huge margin to Charles Leclerc who came home second for Ferrari and Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull.
However Leclerc’s hopes of keeping the title race alive going to the United States Grand Prix in a fortnight were dashed when the Ferrari driver was given a five-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
It meant second place went to Perez and a 113-point lead for Verstappen over Leclerc with only 112 points to go.
