Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona on a two-year contract. The Blues have agreed a fee worth around £12million for the forward with Marcos Alonso set be announced by the La Liga giants on a free transfer on Friday morning.

After several weeks of talks with Barcelona over a deal for the 33-year-old striker, Chelsea finally came to an agreement over a deal that involved Alonso. Aubameyang arrived in London in the final hours of deadline day to undergo a medical and sign his contract, which is understood to be a two-year deal with a further 12 months triggered by certain conditions.

Aubameyang only moved to Barcelona in January on a free transfer after falling out with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta after multiple disciplinary issues. The former Gunners striker was stripped of the captain’s armband at the Emirates Stadium towards the end of last year and the north London club eventually terminated his contract, freeing him to move to Barcelona.

During his short time at Camp Nou, Aubameyang scored an impressive 11 goals in 18 La Liga matches and starred in an impressive victory over Real Madrid in last season’s El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Aubameyang worked with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund between 2015 and 2017.

He scored 79 goals in 95 games under the German, 38 more than he netted under any other manager.

This summer the Blues have brought in French defender Wesley Fofana for a fee in the region of £70m, England forward Raheem Sterling from Manchester City for £50m, Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for £34m, English midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa for £20m, Spain left-back Marc Cucurella from Brighton for £60m and Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan.

The deal for Aubameyang means Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has spent almost £250m in his first transfer window since buying the club from Roman Abramovich.
