Aurelien Tchouameni has revealed Kylian Mbappe tried to convince him to join Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Real Madrid this summer.
Tchouameni, 22, was unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Tuesday after completing a €100 million move to the Spanish capital.
The highly-rated midfielder attracted interest from PSG, Liverpool and Manchester United but his heart was set on a move to Real Madrid.
Mbappe also flirted with the idea of joining Real Madrid earlier this summer but ended up signing a new three-year deal in Paris.
“Kylian knew I was leaving Monaco and he wanted to know if I would join PSG,” said Tchouameni, who was unveiled at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.
“But my first choice was Real Madrid and he understood that completely.
“I’m very happy to be here to start my story at Real Madrid, the best club in the world.
“I’m very happy and we’re going to work hard to win more titles for this club. Thanks to the president, my agent and my family for being here.”
Tchouameni was a vital part of the Monaco side that finished third in Ligue 1 this season. He featured 35 times in the league, contributing three goals and two assists, and made a further 11 appearances in European competitions.
The midfielder’s impressive season has also seen him become a regular in Didier Deschamps’ France squads.
Tchouameni made his senior international debut in September 2021 and amassed 10 caps over the course of the campaign.
The Frenchman came through the ranks at Bordeaux, making 37 first-team appearances before moving to Monaco in January of 2020.
Tchouameni has made 95 appearances for Monaco in his two and a half seasons in the principality.
