Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature for Manchester United against Liverpool tonight following the death of his baby son.
The Portugal international revealed his “greatest pain” in a heartbreaking post on social media last night.
Ronaldo said his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez had given birth to a baby girl, but added the tragic news about their son.
United play Liverpool tonight in a game that could have significant ramifications in the Premier League title race and the battle for the top four.
Ronaldo has been in outstanding form of late, scoring his second hat-trick in his last four games in Saturday’s 3-2 win against Norwich.
In a statement released on Tuesday, United said: “Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time. As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening and we underline the family’s request for privacy.
“Cristiano, we are all thinking of you and sending strength to the family.”
