Emmanuel Dennis asked to be left out of the Super Eagles squad for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations after interim coach Austine Eguavoen refused assure him that he will be a regular starter for the Super Eagles according to OwnGoalNigeria.com.
Although his invitation came a bit late but it wasn’t entirely the reason why Watford refused to let him leave for the tournament starting in January in Cameroon.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) upon receiving a response from Watford that they got his pre invitation for the tournament late sort to hear from
the player over his commitment before their next line of action.
Dennis made it known to the NFF that he will only push to be released for the tournament if the interim coach of the team guarantee him a starting spot in all of the games at the tournament.
He said he is sure of getting games at Watford during the time of the Africa Cup of Nations hence won’t want a situation where he will be on the bench for the Super Eagles during the tournament.
Eguavoen refused to commit to such an agreement insisting that he has to fight for a starting spot like every other player in the team. Dennis at that point decided to be allowed to remain with Watford and his wish was granted.
