Keane questions appointment of Rangnick at Manchester United

2 min read

Roy Keane admits it was the right time for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United to part ways, but is not convinced by the imminent interim appointment of Ralf Rangnick.

Solskjaer was relieved of his duties last weekend following an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Watford, with Rangnick expected to take temporary charge.

Keane isn’t a fan of the “interim stuff” and says Rangnick has a tough task ahead of him to get the best of a team that’s been performing way below par in his six months in charge.

“I think so, I’ve argued with Jamie [Carragher] over the last year about a manager getting enough time and I think Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] did get enough time and the results and performances over the last couple of months have been really, really poor – so there was no real surprise after the Watford game.

“Obviously it was disappointing for Ole to finish on such a low, he was going through a difficult spell, but obviously the Watford result was relaly poor, and the performance.

“The club now have to regroup, get somebody in, get the deal over the line. I don’t think this interim stuff is ideal, but it is what it is and they’ve got to get on with it.

“But ultimately when I look at the last few months, the performances of the players, they’re nowhere near good enough for Man United. But as we know the manager always pays the price.”
