Pogba reportedly set to be out for 8-10 weeks after picking up injury

2 min read

The France national team have confirmed that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has left the squad after picking up an injury in training on Monday.

Footage showed Pogba limping away from Monday’s session after appearing to injure himself during a shooting drill.

It has since been confirmed by the French Football Federation that Pogba has injured his right thigh and has been sent back to his club for further tests.

“Victim of an injury to the quadriceps of the right thigh, Paul Pogba is forced to forfeit the next two meetings of the French team, Saturday, November 13 against Kazakhstan at the Parc des Princes and Tuesday, November 16 in Helsinki against the Finland,” a statement read.

In his place, Roma’s Jordan Veretout has been called up by Didier Deschamps.

Pogba is already serving a three-game suspension at club level following his dismissal in the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool, with his final omission scheduled to come against Watford on 20 November immediately after the international break.

According to RMC Sport, not only would Pogba not be fit enough for that one anyway, but initial scans on his injury suggest he could be facing between eight and ten weeks on the sidelines, meaning his 2021 could be over already.

The first game for which Pogba would be eligible to return for United is the Europa League meeting with Villarreal on 23 November, with a trip to Stamford Bridge to face league leaders Chelsea coming five days later, but it seems as though he’s going to miss both of those, as well as potentially plenty of other games.

Once Pogba returns to Manchester, he will undergo further tests on his thigh to confirm just how long he is facing on the sidelines.

United have already seen Marcus Rashford withdraw from the England squad through injury, while left-back Luke Shaw is yet to be released to the Three Lions while United staff monitor the head injury he picked up against City.
