The Wild Beasts shock Super Eagles on home turf

Nigeria were defeated 1-0 by unfancied Central African Republic on Thursday, during a FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier.

Central African Republic produced a strong performance to beat Super Eagles 1-0 in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying Group C fixture at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos on Thursday evening.

The Super Eagles came into the clash with two wins out of two and were widely expected to run over the Wild Beasts.

However, Gernot Rohr’s men struggled to make chances in both halves, despite dominating the visitors.

Victor Osimhen had a shot blocked in the 21st minute as the hosts piled up pressure on the the opponents defence.

He then had another chance to put the Super Eagles ahead few minutes later but he couldn’t find the target after he was played through by Iheanacho.

Central African Republic had the ball in the back of the net in the 31st minute, but the goal was chalked off for a foul on Jamilu Collins.

The pattern of play continue in the second half with the Super Eagles dominating play, while the Wild Beasts sat back in defence.

CAR then grabbed a famous victory against Nigeria within the dying seconds of the match .

K. Namnganda netted the winner in stoppage time to send shock waves throughout the continent.

The Super Eagles will travel to face them in the reverse fixture on Sunday October 10.

Nigeria still top the Group C with six points, the Cape Verde and CAR, on four points apiece, are in second and third positions respectively. Liberia are bottom of the group, with three points.
