Livramento looking to return to Chelsea in the future

2 min read

Tino Livramento has admitted he would be open to returning to Chelsea in the future having left the club this summer.

The 18-year-old has started and impressed in all seven Premier League games for the Saints this season, having made a £5million switch to the south coast.

The full-back was highly rated by the Blues, but with Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James blocking his path to the first team, game time was going to be hard to come by.

The teenager told the Daily Mirror that he knew he had to move to develop.

“Regrets? It would have been nice to play a game but I had to think what was best for me. Being young I’ve always wanted to just play first team football as soon as possible.

“I feel like if I stayed there things wouldn’t have happened as quickly as now. It was a hard decision for everyone involved. They agreed that it was best for me as well and they’ve always looked after me.”

“I’ll never have a bad word to say about how Chelsea treated me growing up and developing me into the player I am today. It’s probably the best academy in the world that anyone would want to go to and develop.”

The deal for Livramento is said to include an option for Chelsea to buy the academy graduate back for a fee of around £25million in the future.

But while the right-back appears to be aware of that option and would consider a return to Stamford Bridge, he insists he is currently just focused on performing well for Southampton.

“Maybe one day, but I’m just enjoying my football at the moment at Southampton, that’s where my head’s at right now,’ he said. “Just trying to pick up as many points as possible and improving individually.”

Although James looks set for a long and prosperous career at Chelsea, Azpilicueta is now 32 and is someone the club will likely look to replace in the not too distant future.

A return for Livramento – assuming he continues to perform well for Southampton in the meantime – could at that point be on the cards.
