I’m more than just a goal poacher – Lukaku laments

Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku has insisted that he “hates it” when he is labelled as just a “goal poacher”, as he does “a bit of everything”.

Lukaku returned to Chelsea this summer from Inter Milan. The Blues paid around £97m to sign him from Serie A side Inter Milan.

The forward previously had spells at Everton and Manchester United after his first stint at Chelsea came to an end in 2014.

Lukaku has scored four times for Chelsea this season from his nine outings. He is without a goal from his last three Premier League games, though.

In an interview with UEFA’s official website, Lukaku insisted that he is at his best when he is “facing towards the goal”:

“The way I’m built – I’m quite big – everybody thinks I’m a sort of target man: just holding up the ball and being a goal poacher. But I’ve never played that way and I hate it,” Lukaku said.

“My biggest strength is that I’m dangerous when I’m facing towards the goal. That’s when I rarely make wrong choices.

“After I pass the ball, I know where I have to position myself in the box. I can do a bit of everything. In some games when I know there is a lot of space behind the defence, I play differently.

“The reason I’m so productive [in front of goal] is because I can do a bit of everything.”
