Mbappe has “no excuse” to look elsewhere – Nasser Al-Khelaifi

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi insists Kylian Mbappe has “no excuse” to look elsewhere after the club unveiled Lionel Messi as their latest superstar signing.

PSG hope to match Messi with the French forward and Neymar, with the Argentine excited by the prospect of forming one of the most dangerous attacking trios in European football.

But with just one year remaining on Mbappe’s contract, he could depart on a free transfer in 2022, despite Al-Khelaifi categorically ruling out that possibility earlier this summer.

But the PSG chief is adamant the club have now delivered everything in order to convince the 22-year-old to follow Neymar and commit his long-term future to the club.

“I think we have the most competitive team. Now there is no choice for Kylian but to stay here in Paris,” Al-Khelaifi said.

“I think everybody knows the future of Kylian, people from Paris and the players.

“He is a really competitive player. He wants to win, he wants to win trophies, he said it in public.

“He wanted a competitive team and I think we have got the most competitive in the world. So there is no excuse for him now. He can’t do anything else but stay.”

Al-Khelaifi previously reiterated that despite just a year remaining on Mbappe’s deal that neither a sale or free transfer for the player were possible.

“I’ll be clear, Kylian is going to stay with PSG. We’re never going to sell him and he’ll never leave for free,” Al-Khelaifi told L’Equipe in June.

“I never give details to the media about ongoing negotiations. All I can say it that it’s progressing well. I hope we’ll find common ground.

“It’s Paris, it’s his country. He has a mission, not just to be a football player, but to promote Ligue 1, his country and his capital.

“He is a fantastic boy, as a person and as an athlete. He’ll win the Ballon d’Or in years to come, I’m 100% sure.

“He has everything he needs to extend here. Where can he go? Which club in terms of ambition and project can compete with PSG today?”
