Liverpool urged to sell Salah if he fails to agree to new deal

1 min read

Liverpool should consider selling Mo Salah if he refuses to agree on a contract extension, according to pundit Paul Robinson.

The Egpyt international has two years remaining on the £200,000-a-week deal he signed in July 2018.

He remains an integral player at Anfield, having scored 22 goals in 37 Premier League matches last season.

However, Robinson thinks Liverpool might cash in on the forward, like they did with Philippe Coutinho.

The playmaker left for Barcelona in January 2018 for an initial £105million fee.

Speaking about Salah’s future, Robinson told Football Insider: “We have been here with Coutinho.

“Everybody was panicking when Coutinho left but the side was rebuilt on that money.

“You look at where they have gone since he left and you would have to say that they are in a better place.

“I am not an advocate of allowing players to run down their contracts. If a contract cannot be done, from a business sense, transfers have to be conducted.

“The fee Liverpool could get for Salah now would be huge. But that will not be the case in 12 months’ time when he is another year older with just 12 month left on his deal. He could quite easily then leave on a free.”
