Mourinho hits back at Ozil over his Spurs jibe

1 min read

Jose Mourinho has responded to Mesut Ozil after the Arsenal player insisted that he would rather retire than play for Tottenham.

The former Real Madrid playmaker has been frozen out by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal. He is yet to make an appearance this season after being left out of their Premier League and Europa League squads.

Ozil is out of contract at the end of this campaign. But he looks set to leave this month with a move to Fenerbache or the MLS in the pipeline.

On Tuesday Ozil conducted a Q&A on his official Twitter account. He was asked whether he would retire rather than sign for Tottenham. Ozil offered a blunt response, saying “easy question. Retire!”

Mourinho was asked during his latest press conference about Ozil’s statement. As cited by GOAL, the Spurs boss responded in jovial fashion:

“Who told him that Tottenham would be interested in signing him?”

Tottenham are set to face Fulham on Wednesday after their postponed game was rearranged at late notice.

Fulham boss Scott Parker has labelled this decision as “scandalous”. Mourinho also responded to Parker’s comments during his press conference:

“Are you serious? They [Fulham] had 48 hours to prepare for this game. Look, I had the news that I wasn’t going to play them two hours before the game started.”
