Serge Gnabry out of quarantine, set to face Lokomotiv Moscow

2 min read

Bayern Munich has confirmed that Serge Gnabry is no longer required to stay in quarantine after testing positive for coronavirus last week ahead of the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. After quarantining for the past five days, Gnabry has received negative tests for the past four days and will thus be able to rejoin the squad that will travel to take on Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Gnabry also got two antigen tests over the weekend, which came back negative. Because of this, it’s now assumed by Munich’s health department that the positive test (PCR) he received last week was, in fact, a false positive. There were also no reports suggesting that Gnabry wasn’t experiencing any sort of symptoms, making it all the more likely that the initial test result was a false positive, which can happen with the PCR tests.

In hindsight, Gnabry might be frustrated to have missed out on Bayern’s dominant performances over both Atletico Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt, but he’ll also be happy that he doesn’t have to continue the quarantine process and can be involved against Lokomotiv Moscow.

Additionally, this is slightly refreshing news for the rest of Bayern’s players and staff, as there were fears that the virus could’ve spread to other people if Gnabry had it. Thankfully, all the rounds of testing this week have not yielded any other positive results.
