Manchester United complete signing of Edinson Cavani

1 min read

Manchester United have completed the signing of veteran striker Edinson Cavani on a free transfer.

The Uruguay international had been without a club since leaving PSG in the summer when his contract expired.

The 33-year-old has signed a two-year contract and it is thought he will earn around ยฃ175,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

Cavani, with 341 club goals since arriving in Europe at Palermo in 2007, played for PSG for seven seasons, joining from Napoli in 2013 and is the French outfitโ€™s top scoring player with 200 goals, usurping Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the crown in 2018. Ibrahimovic hit the ground running when he was signed by Man United in 2016 and fans will hope his former teammate can have a similar impact.

United โ€“ who will face PSG in this seasonโ€™s Champions League group stage โ€“ have announced Cavani with one hour of the transfer window to go having already signed two other players on deadline day.

Alex Telles, the attacking left-back, was brought in from Porto with young Atalanta winger Amad Diallo Traore, the highly-rated 18-year-old, also agreeing to a future transfer to Old Trafford.

The deadline day arrivals join midfielder Donny van de Beek in Manchester, with the Netherlands international Unitedโ€™s only signing of the summer window prior to today.
